Biography

Read Dr. Angell’s vita (pdf).

Professor Maureen E. Angell joined the Department of Special Education at Illinois State in 1996 after earning her Ph.D. in Special Education at the University of Georgia. She currently serves as Doctoral Program Coordinator in the Department of Special Education. She teaches courses at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral level related to family-professional collaboration, single-case research design, applied behavior analysis, assistive technology, and contemporary topics in special education. She enjoys channeling her energies into mentoring master's and doctoral students in the development of theses and dissertations. Her published works related to the scholarship of teaching and learning focus on professional disposition of pre-service teachers, communicating social support to learners, classroom management, balancing learning standards with students' diverse learning needs, and the development of self-determination and leadership skills in teachers. With almost 40 years of teaching experience at all levels of general and special education, Dr. Angell believes that she continues to learn from her students as much as she teaches them. She enjoys the challenge of continually creating responsive learning environments in which all learners feel welcome to share ideas, ask questions, raise issues, explore difficult implications, and offer creative solutions to complicated problems. She is confident that acceptance and respect for adult learners' diverse kinds of minds will translate into their practice as teachers and educational leaders who are committed to fostering respect for their learners' diverse kinds of minds.
